B.C. to defer trailer weight reductions

VICTORIA, B.C. -- The Commercial Vehicle and Safety Enforcement division of the B.C. Ministry of Transportation has announced it is deferring trailer weight reductions initially slated to take effect Dec. 31.

The department said it was holding off until it has had time to further evaluate the anticipated safety benefits.

"The evaluation will determine if proposed changes to commercial vehicle weight allowances will have a 'direct and measurable' safety benefit to the operation of commercial vehicles covered under section 7.26 and appendices F, H and I of the Commercial Transport Regulations," the department announced in a bulletin that was shared with Trucknews.com.

For more information, contact Perry Dennis, Deputy Director of Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement at 250-953-4016, or by e-mail at Perry.Dennis@gov.bc.ca. You can download the bulletin in the Documents section of this Web page.
