Takers and There is Nothing On TV

My husband and I watched the movie Takers this past weekend.  First let me say that there is just about nothing worth watching on regular TV. The shows I do enjoy seem to have the shortest seasons I have ever seen for TV series. Justified on FX is a huge favorite and just when you are really into the happenings, they will say “Next on the season finale.”  I am like, what?  It’s over?

Southland that TNT picked up from NBC is another series I can’t get enough of. The short seasons seem to spill over into the premium channels like HBO and Showtime. My two favorites, Camelot and Game of Thrones each have one more episode. It feels like they just started!

I have noticed that I just don’t seem to get into all the network and cable shows other folks really seem to like. A few examples, NCIS, CSI which there are now like five different CSI shows…..Miami, Los Angles, New York,….. Pretty soon there will be a CSI Mars, or CSI Space Station. I started to like The Mentalist on CBS and then it started to bore me. Shows like House, that I used to enjoy, seem to have run its course in my opinion. There are only so many years we can take the same scenario of unheard of deadly diseases with a different name. The fellow who is House, Hugh Laurie is awesome, but his character also began to bore me.

I don’t get the shows like Hardcore Pawn! Dog the Bounty Hunter! But I have to admit when Dog first came out I watched it. Dog and Mrs. Dog along with their other Kevlar vest wearing and pepper spray strapped to the leg sidekicks were pure entertainment.

I never got into Law and Order. The Closer seemed great until about season 4 and once again, I just didn’t care anymore.

I never tire of certain syndicated shows. Everybody Loves Raymond, King of Queens, Seinfeld, Friends, Family Guy and According to Jim.  If I come across any I Love Lucy or The Andy Griffith Show I will not hesitate to watch it. Even though I have seen all of them hundreds of times. My kids bought me the entire set of I Love Lucy episodes for Christmas one year. I was like a little kid.

So, last week at the end of the day when I wanted to sit down and crochet while watching a good show, I flipped through channels so many times, looking at the same thing but yet, it is like I keep thinking something really good is going to just pop up and I missed it the other 50 times I flipped through the channels.  So I ended up watching 3 animated movies; Shrek: Forever After, Tangled and How To Train Your Dragon. Loved all three. My husband even watched How To Train Your Dragon with me.

Then we decided on Takers showing on the demand channels. It was free that helped with the decision too.

This movie was good. It wasn’t Magnificent, jumping up and down, turning flips good, just good. It entertained us for about two hours.  This movie starts with instant action. Five handsome men gather without being noticed in a large well secured building and prepare to rob a bank. It is clear they are very well planned, and funded as far as guns and equipment goes. The plan to get away was really genius if you could pull it off, which of course they did. So, they go their separate ways and enjoy a huge amount of money. All five men have very different personalities. In fact two of them are brothers. One brother, played by Michael Ealy, is in love and ready to get married and the younger brother, played by singer, Chris Brown, is still just a little wet behind the ears.

Paul Walker, whom you might know from The Fast and The Furious movies, is the pretty boy smooth one. Idris Elba plays the British, wise leader of the group. Idris was the leading man in the movie Obsessed with Beyonce. The cocky also smooth other pretty boy is played by Hayden Christensen.

On the same day they pull of their last bank robbery, a past member of the gang is released from prison. It is clear he is bitter that he took the fall and he wants what is due to him. First his share of the money he never got to enjoy and he has a job he wants them to do with him.

The ex-con, named Ghost, is played by Tip T.I. Harris. This dude plays this part really well. You don’t like him and you don’t trust him. The fellows agree to the plan which is allowing a very short time to prepare. These fellows are pretty much used to taking a good bit of time in planning the next job. They are very good at what they do.  I think they agree out of guilt that he was the one to get caught and go to jail. You can clearly see they don’t trust him either. Oh and one other tid-bit, The ex-con’s ex-girlfriend is now engaged to the older brother I told you about. That doesn’t seem to sit very well with Ghost.

I almost forgot, Matt Dillion plays a cop in the film and he is pretty much obsessed in finding all the connections that lead to these guys.

You will have to watch Takers yourself to get the rest of the story. Lots of guns and living well from robbing banks is abundant in this film. If you like these types of movies, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it. This movie is rated R.

Take care and stay safe,

KJ
