Durable goods orders declined 0.8% in September as demand for aircraft dropped, the Commerce Department said Wednesday.
The decrease followed a 0.1% dip in August, Commerce said.
Economists had forecast a 1% decline in September, Bloomberg reported.
Excluding volatile transportation orders, bookings for goods meant to last several years climbed 1.7%, the largest increase in six months, Commerce said.
Durable goods include large items like refrigerators and air conditioners. Trucking is a major beneficiary of durable goods manufacturing, hauling both components and finished goods.
