When faced with waiting for a load assignment in Forth Worth, we remembered a TV Extreme Travel show on Extreme Truck Stops that listed Billy Bob’s Texas as a truck stop. It was a place we had never seen in our travels or even heard of, so decided to locate this elusive “truck stop.”
What we found was NOT a truck stop, although there was parking for big-rigs in dirt parking lots, they cater to horse and cow haulers for the rodeos. We paid for the parking, I think it ran $10 and would be difficult to get in and out, if they were having an event with a lot of stock animals. We thought we would check out Billy Bob’s anyway and at least eat some BBQ.
What we discovered was the southwestern Old Town Fort Worth area, stockyards, shopping, dining and more. The building now known as Billy Bob’s was built in 1910 as an open air cattle barn, it now provides fun for 6000+ people with a concert stage, dance floor, restaurant, arcade, casino, live bull riding arena and more. They host events and concerts in the “World’s Largest Honky Tonk.” The evening we were there, it was closed for a big fund raising concert so we need to go back again to see the interior.
But if you want to see real longhorn cattle this is a good place to go, the Fort Worth Herd Cattle Drive happens daily at 11:30 am and 4:00 pm in Old Town. The Cattle Drive travels through the Historic Fort Worth Stockyards then back to the holding pens behind the Exchange building for viewing.
They have rodeos and events, many steakhouses and saloons for meals and refreshment along with live entertainment along the streets. It is a great place to enjoy a horse drawn ride, purchase some western wear, or ride the mechanical bull. It was a fun place to visit and we do want to return sometime, but in truth, it is really not a truck stop. The makers of the TV show must have been reaching to come up with material for the show.
Directions from South of Fort Worth:
Take I-35W North to Exit 54 B, which is Northeast 28th Street West. When you exit the only way you can go is West. Go 6 (six) traffic signals to Main Street, turn left. Go to the next traffic signal Stockyards Blvd, turn left. Billy Bob’s is on the right.
What are the Parking Facilities & Prices to park at Billy Bob’s Texas? Here is what they say:
If you liked that post, then try these...“Billy Bob’s Texas has nearly 20 Acres of Parking spaces available for our visitors to park in when they come. We welcome tour buses, pickup trucks, cars, and whatever else you can drive here!
We also have room for and welcome RV vehicles that are here for a little while or just passing through. We do not provide any type of hook-ups for electrical or water but will allow you to park here for a few days to enjoy Billy Bob’s and the Stockyards area if you want too. Just let us know you will be here for a day or two and everything will be okay.”
