If you have traveled I-74 in Indiana southeast of Indianapolis, you may recall seeing the signs for Bev’s Country Diner. They invited anyone to come visit their little country restaurant, including truckers! But due to economic times, Bev’s has had to do away with their signs along the interstate.
Why do I feel it necessary to blog/write about a small country diner? Because it is usually the Mom & Pop places that make you feel the most welcome, have home cooked food for a reasonable price, and most of all because if you DO want to visit Bev’s Country Diner they have ample truck parking!
When you walk in you will be greeted with a smile and be reminded of restaurants from time past. Complete with a counter and swivel stools, country decorating, and mix of trucking memorabilia (pictures and trucks) Bev’s serves everything from biscuits-n-gravy to salad to peanut butter and jelly to tenderloins (pictured) as big as you can imagine. Fridays they offer Walleye and between the hours of 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. they offer homemade fried chicken (they say to call ahead if you want it ready by the time you arrive).
They offer carry out and call ahead service as well so you can place order to take down the road with you if you like. They also offer coffee to go and even have a price for the size of thermos you bring in to fill up. If you have a sweet tooth, you will definitely like their selection of homemade pies. My personal favorite is the oatmeal caramel pie. The picture here is the butterscotch pie.
Bev’s offers truckers a chance to get away from all of the fast food joints that are available up and down the road – instead giving way to a more serene country setting just off of the interstate. Although smoking is not allowed in any facility within Shelby County, Indiana where Bev’s is located, they do have picnic tables located outside the restaurant with ashtrays for your convenience.
Bev’s Country Diner can be found Exit 119 off of I-74. If you are going West on I-74 get off of Exit 119 and follow the ramp to the stop sign and turn left. After you cross the bridge (over the interstate) you will come to a stop sign and turn right – Bev’s will be on your right. Of course if you are going East you will turn right off of the exit go to the stop sign and turn right again. Bev’s has plenty of truck parking behind their building. They are open most days 6:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Holidays – you should call ahead to make sure they are open. If you would like to see their menu please go here.
