The Big Storm: Winds reach 165mph, transport in chaos as Scotland takes a battering
SCOTLAND has been battered by stormy winds of up to 165mph which have closed schools, disrupted transport and prompted police warnings for drivers to stay off the roads.As many as 50,000 homes lost power, the country's main bridges were shut and passengers were stranded on a train.Winds of 70mph-85mph hit the central belt, leading police forces to tell motorists to stay at home and not to travel until 9pm in the central belt.Winds of 165mph were recorded on the summit of Cairn Gorm in the
