Brad keselowski Wins At Pocono With A Broken Ankle!

You know what? I used to be pretty hard on Pocono Raceway; I mean I hated the thing. There was something about a track shaped like a triangle that really bugged me. Three corners who’s designs were based on a corner from three different legendary tracks is unique but I thought it was just a waste of a race date just like the road courses. I still think the road courses are a waste but I am changing my tune on Pocono after this weekend’s racing action there. They used to call Ricky Rudd the “Iron Man” for all of his consecutive starts in the top series of Nascar, but today I am going to have to give that title to Brad Keselowski. Did you read my previous story about how he broke his left ankle in a crash during testing at “Road Atlanta”?  (Cousin Carl Re Signs.) How in the world that guy was walking much less driving a racecar and clutching with that leg after seeing that photo I’ll never know! That has to have been the worst ankle I have seen in recent memory. What a driver!

When the last caution of the day came out the Blue Deuce team decided to stay out and try to gain another win placing them solidly in the 11th position in points setting them up for one of two wild card slots in the chase. Kyle Busch tried everything to catch keselowski but there was just no getting to him as he defended his top spot in front of the field like a man possessed. This race very well could have been Joey Logano’s win as rain had the red flag flying at lap 124. Joey Logano’s team where doing the rain dance as in any Nascar race, if it gets rained out after the half way point they can officially call the race complete and declare a winner. But Logano’s luck would not hold out and the rain stopped. The rain delay lasted 1 hour and 40 minutes including time for the jet dryers to get the racing surface dry. The sound of those jet dryers had to have been a miserable sound to one Joey Logano, He has won a race due to a rain out before but this one would finish under the green flag.

This win brought Brad Keselowski from 21st place in Sprint Cup Points to 18th after his Pocono win setting him as I said solidly in the top twenty with two wins thus making him the top seed for the 1st wild card slot in the chase.

Here is the way they crossed the line at Pocono. For the full field rundown head over to Nascar.com

Nice to see Dale Junior in the top ten at Pocono, this will stop the slide in points the 88 team had been experiencing for the moment but we have road course racing on the agenda next and Junior hates that as much as I do. Paul Menard coming in tenth is pretty cool to see after his win at the Brickyard 400. Some reporters were a little rough on him after that win saying things like “We need to see something more from him to legitimize his talent”. Are you kidding me? Some guys just find it easier to write about the negative than the positive. Maybe this top ten will shut them up. Personally I think Menard will make the chase.

I’m getting a late start to trucking this week and am headed out with my first load. I have my sidekick “Pepper” with me this week and we are headed to Minnesota. I get home every weekend but I was late getting back from Florida this past weekend, which put me finishing a 34-hour break late Monday night. It might be a short week this week but last week I had over 4000 miles because I left on Saturday. I’ll be back later with more news form the past weekend at Pocono and Iowa. Did you see the video on youtube of the ARCA car flying over the infield catch fence at Pocono? That is coming up as well as anything else I find worth reporting.

For now stay safe out there, I’ve got to drive.
