Austin Dillon Wins The Gibson Guitar At nashville

There is nothing like winning at the Nashville Super Speedway, I mean where else can you win a race and get a free Gibson electric guitar? Tonight Austin Dillon Ran off from the field late to win the Lucas Deep Clean 200. Johnny Sauter could only watch as the black number three truck passed him with 23 laps to go and then pull away leaving little chance to get the lead back. Austin Dillon, who is the grandson of Dale Earnhardt’s former car owner Richard Childress, has talent on loan from God when it comes to racing anything on wheels. Sometimes I think Dale senior is behind the wheel of that Camping World truck series race truck. This was his third career win in the truck series and his first this season, and now his crew is on a high so I would bet there will be another win for the 21 year old from Lewisville North Carolina. Not unlike the old saying “Cautions breed cautions” sometimes wins breed wins as well.

Austin is the son of former driver and general manager of Richard Childress Racing, Mike Dillon. Dillon was the Raybestos Rookie of the year in 2010 and I see championship written all over this young man. It does help being the grandson of Richard Childress but having this kind of talent doesn’t come solely from running in good equipment, you have to have the talent to back it up. In eleven starts this season he has 1 win, 3 top fives and 5 top tens. You do the math that means that he has only finished outside the top ten three times this season.

He only led four times but the last one was the most important one, a two tire stop gained him max positions on the track and all he had to do was get past Sauter. If you want to have something to bet on, Austin Dillon has gotten all of his wins from the pole, so if Dillon is on the pole you better head to Vegas and put you money down. All of this success coming from a 21 year old who is still in college attending High Point University, the future years for this young man can only get better. I never thought that there would be anyone else besides Dale Earnhardt Junior who could get away with driving the number three on any kind of car but this young man has taken that number three and brought it back into the spotlight in a very respectful manner. Earnhardt fans now have a new driver to cheer for, the grandson of Dale Earnhardt seniors car owner. It is almost like he is part of the Earnhardt family, at least that is my opinion.

If you think Austin is a great race truck driver wait until you see his younger brother Ty Dillon who is racing in the ARCA Remax series where he is doing well. Ty like his brother started out in Legends cars where he won twice in his first year and nine times in the second year. After three years in legends cars he went on to paved late models where he scored 10 top 10’s in 13 starts. In 2009 he moved on to the K&N pro series east where he ran a 3 race limited schedule and got two top tens. In 20010 Ty ran 8 out of 10 races and scored 2 top 5’s and 4 top 10’s. This entire stint of racing was done in both the K&N Pro series east and the ARCA Remax series at the same time. His first win was at the Kansas Speedway in the 2010 Remax series. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree when it comes to either of these two young drivers. It won’t be long and you will see Ty racing in the truck series as I think his brother Austin is moving to the nationwide series full time in 2012. It will be cool to see both Dillon boys in full time Nascar rides next year, I like Austin but Ty looks to be the rowdier of the two. He will be something to watch.

Don’t forget there is a nationwide race Saturday night.

Stay safe
