Mack now offering adaptive cruise with braking on Pinnacle models

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Mack has announced it is now offering the Bendix Wingman Advanced collision mitigation system on its Pinnacle models.

The system is offered as an option on all Mack Pinnacle highway models and provides adaptive cruise control with braking, which actively intervenes when necessary to prevent or mitigate rear-end collisions.

When a rear-end collision is imminent, the system takes a number of steps, including reducing the throttle, engaging the engine brake and, if necessary, applying the foundation brakes.

The system uses a radar sensor mounted to the front of the vehicle to measure following distance. It can also provide following distance and stationary object alerts and is always active at speeds above 10 mph, even when cruise control isn’t on.

“Safety is a top priority for Mack,” said Jerry Warmkessel, Mack highway product marketing manager. “The addition of Wingman Advanced provides another option for fleets and drivers to help improve safety on the road. This is an example of how Mack integrates technology to assist the driver.”
