Stolen tractor-trailer being chased across GTA

TORONTO, Ont. -- The chase is on to catch a stolen tractor-trailer. Ontario Provincial Police are currently tailing equipment that was stolen from a Husky Truck Stop in Niagara-on-the-Lake early this morning, according to a report by CP24.

As of 12:55 p.m., the tractor-trailer, flanked by several police vehicles, was travelling in the QEW's Toronto-bound lanes through Grimsby after driving south into Niagara Falls from the GTA and turning around, CP24 reported.

In the several hours since the ordeal began, including one pursuit that was called off for safety reasons, the chase has moved from Niagara Region to the GTA, from the GTA to the Kitchener-Waterloo area and back to the GTA before heading south towards the Niagara Region, according to reports.

A man who leases the tractor-trailer reported it stolen after finding it missing from its parking spot at the Husky, according to Niagara Police.

CP24 reports that wood products had been loaded a flatbed trailer when it was stolen, but the flatbed is now empty.

While police say there is no immediate threat to public safety, officials have asked those travelling in southern Ontario today to follow news reports and avoid whatever roads the tractor-trailer is travelling on.
