A Better Use of Your Time…

images (7)Spinning the constantly stagnant, bureaucratic and at-times, utterly uninspiring globe of trucking news, we see a delay in the inevitable requirement for every truck to have an electronic on-board recording device. Similar to the nonsense with health care, one Appeals Court says no, another will say yes and another says something else. How tedious.

It’s really another dance between the ATA and OOIDA. The issue is well covered by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. As you know, I’m not a fan of anything the ATA does, but they will win this in the end. That’s after the over-paid clowns at both organizations write each other lots of letters and waste their members dues on legal fees. It will give the traditional trucking media something to do until every new truck that rolls of the assembly lines in Canada, Mexico and what little manufacturing is left in the US has an EOBR pre-installed.

Speaking the OOIDA, read what was on their Facebook page today: “While differing opinions and debate are not prohibited on the OOIDA Facebook page, a certain level of decorum must be maintained. Posts containing profanity or attempts to bully other commenters will be deleted. Repeated offenses will result in users being banned from the page.” Are OOIDA commenters getting a bit testy, salty in their language perhaps? OMG – passionate? Now, now OOIDA people, you all have to behave like good little children or your “leaders” in that hot spot of legislative activity – Grain Valley MO – will delete you as one of their Facebook friends.

Speaking of comments, did someone say something about my posts on Texas Governor Rick Perry? Ah, Perry and Bachmann. What a pair. One year from now these two and the rest of the Republican buffoons will be having their convention about 15 miles from my front door in Tampa. I can’t wait. What did Perry Bush say this weekend, after Bachmann said God is punishing D.C. with a hurricane? Serpents and frogs to those who wish same sex marriage?

According to the Christian Science Monitor: Perry Bush called Social Security – “the retirement program for seniors a monstrous lie and “a Ponzi scheme for young people. Add that to Governor Perry’s comments on man-made global warming – a scientific theory that has not been proven. On evolution – just a theory with gaps. On the Federal Reserve’s practice of printing more money to boost the economy: doing so again would be almost treasonous.” Just the sort of nonsense that Republican Conservatives yearn for – that, sadly, includes many truckers.

And, for the record, the 10th Amendment is meaningless when States govern by the Bible, for the Bible and of the Bible.

images (9)The world continues to lose it’s mind as Chaz Bono, recent convert to manhood and loudmouth (Tot Mom) Nancy Grace were just announced as contestants on Dancing With The Stars! Let’s turn our heads away from the loons.

I’m going to recommend a blog that will do you more good that anything OOIDA, the ATA or the Republicans have to offer. It’s The Pioneer Woman. Although read mostly by women, I found it both interesting, informative and a great resource – especially if you like to cook on the road. The recipe of chipotle steak salad, currently on the home page of the blog, is excellent. The author does all her own step by step photography, in fact, I don’t like the way cook books are written, but her blog and her two best selling books are the exceptions.

By the way, look at that photo of Chaz – quite the “beefy” chap, isn’t he? What does he remind you of? A trucker you say? Ah-so.

Have you heard about this woman? No, not Chaz. Her name is Ree Drummond. A real woman. Her blog receives about 13 MILLION hits a month! According to the Huffington Post “It’s a level of success Drummond says she couldn’t have dreamt of a few years ago. When she first started blogging about food in earnest in 2007, she says it was purely a whim to document the cooking process step by step as she made dinner for her family.

That formula — one part recipe instruction, one part food porn, one part Drummond’s down-home wit — turned out to be a winning combination for the stay-at-home mom. As a true pioneer in the world of food blogging, Drummond made an early stake in a market that would eventually become saturated with thousands of bloggers eager to share similar success. But Drummond’s readers keep returning: her blog won Weblog of the Year at the 2009 Bloggies.”

thepioneerwomancooks500Drummond’s first cookbook, The Pioneer Woman Cooks, was published in October 2009 after reaching the top spot on Amazon’s preorder list for hardcover books. Drummond wrote a series on her blog titled From Black Heels to Tractor Wheels, chronicling her would-be move from Los Angeles to Chicago when she met a cowboy and changed her plans. The series was published as a book in February 2011 and opened at number 2 on The New York Times Best Seller list for hardcover nonfiction.

In April, 2011, the Food Network announced that Drummond would host a daytime television series on the network, premiering, August 27, 2011. A motion picture based on Drummond’s book From Black Heels to Tractor Wheels was reportedly in development at Columbia Pictures for Reese Witherspoon to star as Ree.

Not bad for a blogger.
