Junior Is Second Again And More Fistacuffs!

Man how do you go on as a Dale Junior Fan? A bridesmaid twice in short order! Talk about nerves, I was all nerves Sunday watching the end of the race out in Kansas. There I sat in my easy chair, well on the edge of my easy chair hoping and praying that Denny Hamlin would run out of gas. Then praying that Brad Keselowski would run out of gas as well! I know, Sorry Brad fans but I was ready for Junior to win even if it was with fuel mileage. They are running great this season and I know that it is just a matter of time before they get a win but I am so ready to see Dale Earnhardt Junior to get this monkey off his back. This season there are plenty of things to be happy about, I mean Steve LeTart is a great crew chief and cheerleader, he and Junior are great friends and I see Dale Junior getting more involved in the race team as far as hanging around their garage stall and being more involved in the team. It is truly a team effort and that is something that I don’t think Junior has had before at this level. Everything is clicking along and he has had some great finishes but there needs to be a win so “Junior Nation” can settle down and enjoy the lead up to the chase. I don’t see Pocono as being the place where Junior breaks the streak but I have been wrong plenty of times before. Jeff Gordon has three top tens in the last four races at Pocono so LeTart has some success there just not wins. This is a different driver though so you never know. I hope for a win here for the fans sake.

Well unless you live under a rock you have heard the news that came out of Kansas Saturday night. Kyle Busch obviously was upset with Richard Childress Truck series driver Joey Coulter after a late race pass and showed his non appreciation by running into him on the cool down lap after the race. Word has it that Richard Childress has previously warned Kyle Busch that if he ran into another piece of his equipment he (Richard Childress) was going to “Whip his ass”. Well after the post race trading of paint Richard did just that. The story goes that when Kyle was walking back to his hauler Childress got him in a headlock and punched him three times sending Kyle to the ground in a crumple. Kyle did not hit the famous 65 year old car owner back and that was the end of the incident. Rumors are that Childresssaid something to kyle about the post race incident and Supposedly Kyle said “That’s part of racing grandpa.” That was all it took for Richard Childress to act out his warning by taking care of Kyle right then and there.

Today Nascar announced that they are assessing Richard Childress a $150,000 fine and placing him on probation from now until December 31st for all Nascar Sanctioned events. So let me get this straight, ” Have At It Boys” only applies to drivers? And isn’t Kyle Busch on probation for all Nascar events as well? So why is it that he gets a free pass for his attemted wrecking of Joey Coulters truck after the race? This brings me to a question that comes up from time to time in the Nascar nation. What does “Probation” in Nascar really mean? I saw the video of the post race incident between Joey Coulter and Kyle Busch and I saw Kyle intentionally hit Coulters truck. So how is it that Kyle gets away “Scott Free” after being on probation? Here we go again folks, more inconsistency on the part of the sanctioning body.

I wonder, do you think that this will be Kyle Busch’s “Jimmy Spencer Incident”? Remember when Kurt called Jimmy Spencer a “Never was been” and Spencer dotted Kurt’s eye for him? I wonder if this will be the beginning of a new Kyle Busch who from now on drives with a bit more respect so that he doesn’t get his block knocked off anymore? I know that Richard Childress is 65 years old but old men hit hard as hammers. Do you think that he got any good licks in on poor Kyle? If you were kyle would you press charges against Richard Childress? Or do you think that this will be the end of it. I know that kevin Harvick wants to beat Kyle badly but he has his hands tied by being on probation. Kurt went through a phase like this only it wasn’t near as reckless as it seems like kyle is. I know that the dude is passionate about racing but people tend to hate drivers that use their cars as weapons or intentionally tear up other drivers equipment as a form of pay back. I have a feeling that Kyle got a real nice talking to by the powers to be at Nascar about the post race incident and they may have gave him one last break considering that M & M’s pretty much layed down the law on Kyle after the finger flipping incident, meaning that one more incident that hurts their reputation and they would pull their sponsorship. I have a feeling that Nascar really didn’t give Kyle a break as much as they did for Coach Joe Gibbs.

In and around all this turmoil Brad keselowski got his first Cup win at the Kansas Speedway Sunday out lasting Dale Earnhardt Junior in a fuel mileage battle. Kurt Busch led the most laps and was the dominant car to beat but with a hand full of laps left he had to pit for fuel. His team Mate Brad keselowski pitted a few laps after Kurt on the last run and he was saving fuel like a mad man trying to make it to the finish line before Dale Junior. You could hear Brad pushing in the clutch in the turns ans letting it out on the straights. I think he even shut it off a couple of times as well. I congratulate him on a well run race and it was nice to see him in victory lane. Even if he did relegate Junior to second place again.

The points are looking good for Junior Nation so far. For the finishing order head over to Nascar.com

Jeff Gordon is still the only driver outside the top ten with a win making him 12th in points if the chase started today with Denny Hamlin in the 12th spot in the same respect. Hamlin does not have a win but he would be the highest driver in points without a win if we were headed to the chase today.

Next week it Pocono Raceway, that silly looking triangle shaped track. I hate that track and I don’t care who knows it. Not that I matter much in that reagard but when they go to Pocono or the road courses I tend to find something else to do. I’m sure that I will record it on DVR so I don’t miss anything exciting, yea right! We need to take a date from Pocono and give it to Rockingham and make it a night race!

Stay safe out there!
